Playlist: My ’80s Dreams
Published 06.10.2026 – 14:46
The ’80s will always be my favourite decade. The colours, the music, the sense of fun—everything seemed a little brighter and more distinctive. Maybe it’s because the world right now feels… I don’t know. A little bleak, a little dystopian, and sometimes quite scary. Perhaps that’s why I find myself longing for a time I never actually experienced.
I was born in 1997, often considered the first year of Gen Z, but I’ve always felt more like a millennial. So much of my childhood was shaped by the music, films and culture associated with millennials that the label never quite felt like me. An ’80s kid at heart, though? Absolutely.
The music is especially nostalgic for me. My parents were both born in the ’60s, so these were the songs of their teenage years—and, eventually, the soundtrack to my childhood. I grew up hearing them on morning drives to school and four-hour journeys to our cabin. Even now, certain songs take me straight back to the back seat of our family car.
It’s a forever love, baby. This playlist brings together some of my favourites, and I hope you find a few to fall in love with too.
What are your favourite ’80s songs?
